The nihil obstat is not a declaration that the events are supernatural.

Church judgment

On September 19, 2024, the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith granted a nihil obstat to the spiritual experience connected with Medjugorje. The faithful may adhere to it prudently, and public devotion is authorized. The Dicastery states this does not imply a declaration of the supernatural character of the events, and the faithful are not obliged to believe in it.

The Dicastery asks that the messages be referred to as "alleged messages."
